Winery focus: Bodegas Corral
Bodegas Corral was founded in 1898 by Don Saturnino Daroca, a born and bred Riojan grower and winemaker, who started planting his first vineyards in Sojuela, a small village near Navarrete. His daughter married Martin Corral who contributed his name and family crest to the winery, a reminder of its family nature to this day.
Bodegas Corral is located right on the Camino Francés (the French pilgrim way). This was awarded World Heritage status and listed as the oldest pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela. It was within this particular enclave of the route that the San Juan de Acre pilgrims’ hospital was built, the remains of which can be found at the winery.
The winemakers at Bodegas Corral know how to extract the finest qualities from the vines grown on the estate. Their precise and constant care in the vineyards including: pruning, tilling the land, monitoring the first shoots and allowing the grapes slow maturation ensure that when the harvest arrives their effort is rewarded with exceptional grapes and stunning wines.
Their experience has shown that certain grape varieties produce the greatest wines and therefore these are grown on the Corral Domaine, such as Tempranillo, Grenache, Mazuelo and Graciano for the red wines and Viura and Malvasia for the white wines. However, it is the Tempranillo grape which deserves special attention, since it is undoubtedly the supreme variety in Rioja. Tempranillo produces wines with moderate alcoholic degree and acidity, open to the palate and ability to age particularly well.
Seven years ago, Bodegas Corral started to develop its long-term strategic plan in order to support, enhance and improve its previous sustainability commitment. They have moved to sustainable and ecological methods of vineyard management leading to the release of a certified organic Rioja range: Don Jacobo Tempranillo Blanco Ecológico, Don Jacobo Tempranillo Ecológico, Don Jacobo Rioja Blanco Ecológico and Don Jacobo Crianza Ecológico. Today, each of the projects of Bodegas Corral are designed to achieve a single purpose: to reach a 100% sustainable and certified organic winery by 2026.

Don Jacobo Rioja Crianza
Ruby red with a medium intensity, nose has red fruit, dairy and vanilla, in the mouth has a sweet tannin, low acidity, medium body, aromas appear sweet, spicy and has a long finish.
Don Jacobo Rioja Reserva
Dark core and a ruby hue. Traditional nose of new oak, vanilla, cedar wood, tobacco, sour red berries and dried herbs. An ample palate, rounded with a fine spiciness, supple red fruit flavours with an herbaceous spiciness, warm and long finish.
Don Jacobo Rioja Gran Reserva
Medium intensity and red-garnet colour. On the nose, it displays coffee, ripe fruit and herbs like clove and pepper. On the mouth, it has soft tannins, low acidity and is reminiscent of cacao, raisins and a long lingering finish.
Don Jacobo Vendimia Seleccionada
Intense pink and purple colour, on the nose it has a high aromatic intensity with hints of red fruit, currants, strawberry and sweets, in the mouth it has medium acidity and a lingering fresh oak finish.
Don Jacobo Crianza Viticultura Ecológico
Clean and bright, with a high intensity and garnet colour. On the nose, it has a high aromatic intensity where appears red fruit, vanilla and lactic notes. On the mouth, it has soft tannins from the new oak barrels, medium acidity, volume and a long lingering finish.
Don Jacobo Rioja Tempranillo Viticultura Ecológico
A lively, fresh organic Rioja made from sustainable and organically farmed Tempranillo grapes. Shows aromas of ripe cherry, plum and blackberry with notes of liquorice, the palate is bright with sweet, ripe fruit and a note of spice.
Don Jacobo Rioja Blanco Viticultura Ecológico
Clean lemon-yellow colour with medium intensity and greenish tones. On the nose the intensity is medium-high with hints of citrus, peach and flowers. The palate has a medium acidity, peach hints with a long and fresh finish.
Don Jacobo Rioja Tempranillo Blanco, Viticultura Ecológico
Lemon yellow colour, high aromatic intensity, on the nose appears aromas of pear, peach and banana. In the mouth has a medium acidity, ripe fruit and compote flavours with a long finish.
Don Jacobo Rioja Rosado
Intense pink colour, on the nose it has a high aromatic intensity with hints of red fruits (redcurrants and strawberry), sweets and candies. In the mouth it has medium acidity, reminiscence of red fruit and a lingering finish. It is well structured and rounded in the mouth.
